Technology & soccer

Sometimes you just have to be thankful for technology. I’m getting an additional 16 hours of holiday for Thanksgiving/Christmas because of technological advances. The college is getting upgrades to the electricity service it receives from the power company and must shut down all power to the campus while the upgrades are performed. The days are not instruction days, so there is little that can be done in the absence of electricity. The administration of the college decided to give staff the extra days off as holiday (paid) leave instead of having us come in and sit around in the dark. This means I’ll get an additional ½ day off at Thanksgiving, and an additional 1 ½ days off at Christmas. I’ll get a full two week paid vacation at Christmas without having to use any vacation leave.

I’m trying to take advantage of the extra time over Christmas to attend a coaching certificate course in Hampton Roads. This will get me started on the path to coaching. I’ve been meaning to start this journey for some time, but have always put it off for one reason or another. I think it’s time to start sharing my gifts with the next generation of players. I’m starting at the bottom of the coaching license tree, but within a few years I should be able to obtain a national license that would credential me to coach pretty much anywhere. If I continue to advance I could even coach at the collegiate and/or professional levels. Maybe I’ll be able to coach for a living some day. I think I’d like that as a job.

By the way, I love half-priced Halloween candy. :)
