Irony

What do you think of my new blog template? I needed a change after 2+ years and this was the one I liked most. What strikes me as odd though is that the header looks similar to a MSN shirt I have. Google owns Blogger and I find Microsoft’s biggest competition offering a template reminiscent of MSN very ironic.

Speaking of Google… The VCCS has chosen Google to supply student email (along with other online applications) to all 23 community colleges in Virginia. These email addresses will not be deleted when students graduate (or stop taking classes) as they have been in the past. They will become permanent, personal addresses. This seems kind of pointless in my opinion since I can’t imagine anyone actually using an email address with EDU tacked on the end of it for personal email once they leave the college. I know I wouldn’t. Most students use their email address at school for school related things. A vast majority of them already have an email address for personal email, why change over to a Google-provided, college address? I guess for the VCCS it is more cost effective to outsource and Google thinks they’ll get email addresses to data mine and spam once the person is no longer a student. I think the VCCS got the better deal there. Google is going to end up spamming a bunch of dormant accounts in the end. Oh well, I’m sure they’ll figure out a way to make money on it.
